The holiday of Flora and Laurus, in Russia revered as patrons of cattle, especially horses, and domestic animals, falls on August 31 (August 18, old style)
August 31 – the memory of Flora and Lavra, who have long been revered in Russia as patrons of domestic animals, especially horses. On this day, the horse festival was celebrated, the horses were not used for work, they were bathed and fed “to the fullest.” They performed prayers from deaths and for offspring of cattle.
The twins Florus and Laurus were stonecutters in Byzantium in the II-III centuries of our era. Once the pagan ruler of Illyria (now Yugoslavia) ordered them to build a temple. The temple they built, but Christian. In addition, they turned many people into their faith. Continue reading

Every year, twice during the summer, the Palio Festival is held in Siena – horseback riding on the city streets and a small square in the center.
The picturesque spectacle begins with a historical convoy, leaving the courtyard of the government palace. The riders wear costumes dating back to the medieval era. Behind them are the standard bearers and drummers. Continue reading

The history of horse breeding was and will be determined by the desires of man. For centuries, man showed only gastronomic interest in horses. On horses were hunted, as well as on all wild animals.
In the period 4000 – 3000 years BC. er Asian nomadic tribes who lived near the Black Sea coast, began to contain wild horses in the herds – primarily for the sake of meat and hides. They also harnessed the horses in a sleigh. Continue reading
